Theater Review - U: Bug: Me
You Will Never Use Insecticide Again
U: Bug: Me is a world premiere rock musical that depicts the complex life of the bugs in the yard. There’s a soil competition tomorrow and earwig Esteban is intent on winning, with the help of his not so reliable friend Pico. The musical appears at the Coterie Theatre through August 2.

Seller Beware
My Perspective
Matt Purdy tries to sell his 1969 Plymouth 340 Formula S Barracuda through online sites, encounters some eager (read: dubious) buyers, and responds to their generous offer and unorthodox transaction proposals (read: scam) via email.

Stonewall
My Perspective
The Stonewall Riots occurred nearly a full decade before I was born. And, having grown up in a small, conservative, Missouri town, it was almost another 20 years before I even heard about the events that took place that fateful night in 1969.

Review: Ernest James Zydeco - Jubilee
Tradition and Innovation
Zydeco isn’t common around Kansas City. Local audiences aren’t always hip about dancing to unfamiliar traditional songs that call for two-stepping and waltzes. As a result, James and the band adapted their sound on Jubilee by working in reggae beats and a bluesy vibe along with traditional numbers.
Review: The Also Rans - History of Setting Fires
Electrifying Rock
Gutsy and brazen without the unrefined brashness and sloppy musicianship of lesser post-punk and scruffy rock acts, The Also Rans demonstrate their electrifying prowess on the five-song EP History of Setting Fires.

Wonderland
Colorful Inspiration
The prospect of devouring everything the world has to offer is tempting, but the truth is that I get overwhelmed and desensitized by too much at once. I prefer one flower, one chocolate, and one conversation with one good friend at a time.

A Voice Has Left the Earth
Illustration and Commentary by Shane Evans
We lost a man we called "The King of Pop." Someone we watched grow from a boy to a man right in front of our eyes. And no matter who it was, everyone—from the President of the United States to a member of the KKK—knew one of his songs and sang it out loud at the top of his or her lungs: “BEAT IT… BEAT IT… NO ONE WANTS TO BE DEFEATED!”

Eric Swangstu: A Boxer in Poet's Clothing
A Special Gallery Feature
Our eyes tear with the 35-mile-an-hour air buffeting across our faces. Hulking steel rumbles past. I stand inches from the track where Eric Swangstu has led me: nose-to-freight-train in Kansas City's West Bottoms warehouse district. It is 2 o'clock in the morning, the summer of 1996.
H1N1 Flu Outbreak
Health
A few patients have asked my thoughts on the current H1N1 flu outbreak and I decided that their concerns are really everyone's concern. The flu is not my specialty and I am not a virologist, but I do receive information from national health organizations regularly via email and this information is worth sharing.
Updated information: June 26, 2009, the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta estimated H1N1 may have already infected as many as 1,000,000 people in the United States
