What is PresentMagazine.com?
Established in 2005, PresentMagazine.com is an online publication that covers Kansas City’s creative and small business community. We focus on storytelling with a community-oriented focus rather than news reporting.

Who publishes the magazine?
Pete Dulin and Pam Taylor are the publishers and editors. We work with a local network of contributing writers, photographers, and artists.

Why focus on the local creative and small business community?
We are an independent, locally owned business with a vested interest in the community we cover. We guide our business practices based on this belief: We believe it is necessary to support independent business owners, local institutions, and creative individuals because it is neighborly, benefits the local economy, and preserves a sense of place in this community we call home.

How often do you publish?
We publish multimedia stories and features several times a week.

What do you mean multimedia stories and features?

Our stories and photographs are often supplemented with mp3s, video, webcasts, and audiovisual slideshows. Used effectively, multimedia enhances our storytelling.

How do people find out about new stories and features?
Readers subscribed to our email updates (sign up here) receive 1-2 emails weekly. Readers also bookmark and visit our site to find fresh editorial content, or they get updates via RSS feed. We post notices on Twitter, Facebook, and Myspace. Also, we maintain an online events calendar and send out a weekly event highlights email, Go. See. Do. PLAY.

What subjects do you cover?
Our major sections include Food, Music, Arts, Business, Community, and Design. We also have several special sections: Sonic Spectrum features weekly music webcasts produced by Robert Moore; Gallery is an online gallery of work by local artists; Voices contains contributions from readers and the community; and Market Place contains paid sponsored features.

What’s the size of your audience?
PresentMagazine.com draws 50,000 readers each month in the greater KC metro area.

How do people find out about PresentMagazine.com?
We host arts and cultural events throughout the year to maintain visibility and reach the public. We also regularly support and sponsor events in our community such as Forks and Corks, March of Dimes Winefest, Crossroads Music Festival, and West Eighteenth Street Fashion Show. Because of our positive role in the community, we benefit from strong word-of-mouth among our readership. Also, we use social media actively. Finally, our partnerships with KCPT, KCMetropolis.org, Review Magazine, and other organizations help us to maintain a presence online and among our target audience.

What is your target audience?
Our target audience is more geographic than demographic. We reach an urban and suburban audience interested in learning about and supporting local food, music, arts, and businesses in their community. Our readers range in age, income, and lifestyle, but have a common interest: They want to know about the people, businesses, and events that make Kansas City a thriving place to live, work, and play.
